To any remaining dedicated readers out there:

I'm still kicking and remain committed to the site. We recently purchased our farmstead with 5 acres just outside Yellow Springs, OH, which of course involves quite a bit of work. In addition, work life is currently very rewarding but I've gained quite a bit of responsibility, which leaves me less time to ponder post topics during the day. And I'm trying to focus on some local initiatives. All of this leaves me less time to focus on the blog, but I'll work out a better balance in time.

FYI, I'm also currently working on a long-overdue and painful site upgrade -- so if you find things not working here, that's the likely explanation.

We're going on a trip to Seattle, Iowa, Minnesota, and D.C. over the next 4 weeks, so there won't be much posting. Have a good July...

Wow, moving is hard enough as it is, but for the sustainably-minded it can be torture! The past three months were very fortunate for us -- I got a new job, we moved back to the Midwest, and we sold our house -- yet extremely stressful.

I know I’ve lost quite a few regular readers and I hope to earn them back now that we’re getting settled. So, I’ll get right back into sustainability topics starting with the one at hand, which is the eco-crappy process of moving states! In October, I learned that I was selected for a job with the Air Force at Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio -- a dream job for me both in terms of the working environment and the location. But first the big news -- the house we found to rent is in the village of Yellow Springs, Ohio, which many of you may know from the Community Solutions Conference held every year on Peak Oil! The village is by far the closest thing I’ve seen to a sustainable community, and is far better able to weather some of the challenges ahead than anywhere we’ve ever seen. I’ll have much, much more on Yellow Springs as time goes on, but for now I’ll get back to our moving story.

We have arrived in Ohio and are in the midst of finding a place to live. I'll get back to regular posting and updates on our adventures once we don't have to steal wireless from Panera Bread anymore.

If you have noticed a slowdown in activity in this site recently, it's due to a couple things: our rascally 5-month old and preparing to pack up and move states! I just got the word recently that I was selected for a job with the Air Force in Ohio, and I start in January. So, please bear with me as we uproot and resettle -- hopefully I'll be able to re-energize the blog with projects and pictures from our new farmstead :)

I have to apologize for the long absence. Retooling our lives to include a wonderfully distracting little baby has taken some time, but we seem to have things fairly well in hand now. I'm still facing the computer issues, but I'll have a new system in hand by the end of the month. In the meantime, I'll be able to make do. Hopefully not too many people have abandoned the site for dead and we can get back to working on the problems at hand.

We're back in town, but dealing with some computer issues as well as time management given our new bundle of joy. I will post once we get settled and I can again find the time to devote to the site. Sorry for the period of inactivity!

We are still on travel throughout Iowa with limited internet access. Look for some posts within the next week, as I'm working on a couple of projects. There's plenty of inspiration for sustainability topics here in the rural midwest :) In the meantime, enjoy your summers...

We're taking a family trip during my paternity break over the next few weeks. As we will be on the road a bit, posting might be light. I'll blog when I have access, but we'll be in some remote areas for a good chunk of the time. Talk to you all when we get back...

It appears my wife is in labor today, and so activity here will likely be light for the rest of the week. I should be back before too long.
